Hollywood Master Chorale

The Hollywood Master Chorale looks forward to presenting exciting, beautiful, and relevant music. Founded in 1995 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit community chorale, the HMC is made up of singers from diverse backgrounds who embody the "melting pot" spirit of the United States. At HMC's June 11, 2022 "Sing On!" concert, the Chorale received a standing ovation!

The HMC hopes to inspire future generations by embracing collaborations with new composers, singers, and musicians, and continuing the Chorale's tradition of performing outstanding repertoire with its public outreach concerts.

Artistic Director: Dr. Stephen Pu

Stephen Pu is an award-winning choral-orchestral conductor, pianist, singer, and teacher. As a pianist, Stephen has won many awards from regional competitions and appeared in concert both in California and Hawaii to enthusiastic applause. A noted singer as well, he has performed on many major stages, including Hollywood Bowl, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and Carnegie Hall.

As a conductor, he has appeared with San Francisco Concerto Orchestra, UCLA choirs and orchestras, Santa Clarity Valley Concert Band, and Irvine Classical Players Orchestra. As a Music Director, he has served UCLA Romantic revival theater, Crossroads School for the Arts and Sciences, and The Relevant Stage. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Claremont Graduate University and a teaching credential from California State University, California. Stephen serves as Director of Choral Studies and Musical Theater at Arcadia High School and Director of Music at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church of Rolling Hills Estates.

Dr. Pu has brought some of his vocal students in to perform with the HMC, both to enrich the sound for the concert, and to give the students experience. On stage together were singers aged 15 to 94!

Stephen's enthusiasm, knowledge, and fresh ideas are a delight for the singers of the Hollywood Master Chorale and our fans.
