LA COMPOSERS CONCERT II
Choral concert presenting premiere works by local composers
Hollywood, May 15, 2008: Building on the success of the first LA Composers Concert, the Hollywood Master Chorale (HMC) invites local composers to submit works for its LA Composers Concert II to be held in April of 2009. Guidelines for submissions are identified below. The HMC will sponsor a pre-concert discussion about the music to be performed and following the performance, the Chorale will host a reception for the composers, media, members and patrons. Composers will also receive a recording of their works.
The first LA Composers Concert, held April 21-22, 2007, was an enormous success. The HMC was pleased that more than half of the twenty compositions presented were premiers for the writers who were chosen. Artistic Director Glenn Carlos is committed to making the LA Composers Concert series a permanent part of the HMC repertoire. “The arts are alive and well in Los Angeles,” says Mr. Carlos, “but there have been limited opportunities to present new works by local composers. The LA Composers Concert series provides an excellent format to showcase the exceptional talents of choral composers in our area. I am equally delighted that so many members of the community want to get to know and support our local artists. The LA Composers Concert II will bring together talented composers, first-rate singers and appreciative patrons in an evening of superb choral music.”
LA CityBeat understands the HMC mission to bring the best in music to our own community. “One way to preserve and protect our resources is to go local whenever possible whether that is the food you eat, the clothes you buy, or the distances you travel. Looking close to home can also bring other pleasures—like appreciating the artistic talent that grows here . . . . [including] the Hollywood Master Chorale.”
Founded in 1995, the Hollywood Master Chorale is a non-profit vocal organization comprised of men and women who share a passion for the art of choral music and a dedication to service in their community. Under the direction of Glenn Carlos, the volunteer 60-plus member Chorale is known for its ability to perform a diverse repertoire including Baroque, Classical and contemporary music. Recent performances include Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna and Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem with guest orchestra.
