Audition Process
The Hollywood Master Chorale holds auditions throughout the year in addition to periodic open rehearsals. To schedule an audition, please call 323.960.4349 or e-mail the HMC at HollywoodMasterChorale@gmail.com. You will meet with Artistic Director Glenn Carlos for approximately fifteen to twenty minutes and will then be notified immediately regarding your possible membership in the HMC. During the audition, you will be asked to:
• Sing chromatic scales to evaluate your range and intonation.
• Undergo a musical memory exercise, requiring you to repeat phrases played by the accompanist.
• Perform brief sight-singing and rhythm exercises. The ability to read music is essential.
• Assess and affirm your time commitment to the Hollywood Master Chorale.
Commitment
The Hollywood Master Chorale performs three major concerts annually in December, April and June. In addition, the Chorale sings at private, community and civic functions. Members of the HMC also enjoy an annual retreat in the fall and hold an intimate Cabaret in the spring or summer. The concert season schedule is announced in the fall of each year. As a member you are expected to:
• Commit in advance to the scheduled performance dates for the entire season.
• Attend rehearsals as scheduled, beginning the first Wednesday after Labor Day through the last concert in June. The HMC has an attendance policy that allows no more than three absences during each concert period.
• Review your music at home so that Chorale rehearsals can focus on technique and section challenges. Rehearsal CDs are provided to assist in learning the music individually.
• Pay $20 per month in Chorale dues.
• Purchase concert attire ($80 — $100 one time).
• Assist in selling tickets to HMC concerts.
Rehearsal Schedule
Members of the Hollywood Master Chorale rehearse weekly plus one Sunday afternoon each month. All rehearsals:
• Are held at Fiesta Hall, Plummer Park, 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, California 90046. (MAP)
• Take place from 7:00 to 10:00 PM each Wednesday and from 2:00 to 5:00 PM on the fourth Sunday of the month. Technical rehearsals are added the week of the performances and are listed on the season concert schedule. Additional sectional rehearsals may be scheduled as needed.
• Begin promptly. Chorale members are expected to arrive on time. Rehearsals are intense and rewarding. Break times offer members the chance to meet and get to know new singers.
